A TIME FOR REVIEW
The Major Events of the Month
As we enter February 2020, we are still very much under the influence of the conjunction of Saturn and Pluto. Although this aspect is now separating, we nevertheless feel the power of these two very serious energies. As you may recall, Saturn is the energetic force that has its impetus the desire to build structures for protection and perpetuity. Saturn represents government or organizations created by laws. The energy of this planet conserves and is inclined to set limits and restraints. On the other hand, Pluto represents the cycle of death and rebirth, and raw power, whether in its highest expression or in its misuse. Of course, the energies of both these planets operate independently, but when they aspect other energies (as symbolized by planets), they pertain to issues prominent at a particular time.
We see these combined energies of Saturn and Pluto
functioning at the societal level. We often hear that the U.S. presidency is
the most powerful position in the world. The energy of the Saturn and Pluto
conjunction is reflected in the findings of the House of Representatives in
their articles of impeachment against. Donald J. Trump. In this case, the House
majority has identified abuse of power (Pluto) and obstruction (Saturn) of Congress, which are outlined as executive office violations  in the Constitution. Therefore, the Saturn-Pluto aspect is a fitting metaphor for
this process. Regardless of the outcome of these proceedings, these issues represented
by Saturn and Pluto are salient in the conversation of our nation.
We can understand how the theme of the Saturn-Pluto aspect
might operate in our individual lives as well. If you study your natal chart,
you can identify the house where 22° Capricorn is located. You can easily
research the meanings of the houses of the natal charts to understand the
activity in your life where you will feel these energies. Or, you can consult
an astrologer to assist you in this effort!
Mercury retrograde is another important event this month. The
astrological literature describes Mercury retrograde periods as times when
communication might seem off-kilter. During a Mercury retrograde phase, we could
take shortcuts, setting ourselves up to overlook necessary details. Therefore,
we might have to redo certain projects. Speaking for myself, all Mercury
retrograde periods are not the same in their impact. I feel some more strongly
than others. This upcoming retrograde period will occur in my third house of
communication, so I am very interested to see what lies in store for me!
We begin feeling the effects of Mercury retrograde the first
week of February, as the shadow period begins at 46 minutes after midnight on
February 2 PST when Mercury reaches 28° Aquarius 13′. What this means is that
Mercury will retrograde up to that degree before it stations direct. Mercury
begins its station on February 16 and then begins the retrograde cycle at 4:54
pm PST on February 17 at 12° Pisces 48′. After turning direct on March 10,
Mercury will not reach this degree of Pisces until March 30. Consequently, we
experience the shadow of Mercury beginning on February 2 and continuing until
March 30. During this period, we are apt to discover that projects we thought
were completed need more refinement. We are more likely to feel that we are finally
moving forward in our projects once we enter April.
With the Sun in Aquarius for most of the month and four
planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and Mars beginning February 9) in Capricorn,
the general mood is serious and focused on the accomplishment of concrete
goals. The sign of Aquarius possesses forward thinking attributes and
appreciates group activities with like-minded individuals. This is an excellent
time to join or become more active in professional or community associations.
Political campaigns would also be a good choice to express this month’s
energies.
